Fall into Perfect Skin Care!

Fall is in the air – the time of cozy sweaters, warm beverages, pumpkin spice everything and Halloween! While summer skin care is all about controlling oil caused by the hot and humid weather and sun protection, fall brings it’s own skin care challenges. The humidity in the air decreases and the cooler temperatures can cause our delicate facial skin to become dry and dull. Skincare routines in the fall should focus on repairing the damage done during the summer months and preparing your skin for the much harsher, colder temperatures. Although many don’t realize the importance of adjusting your skin care routine with the seasonal changes; it is very important to take climate/ environmental changes into consideration when choosing the best routine for your skin type. (If you don’t know your skin type, check out our post about it here!)

Exfoliate Gently

During the summer months, we tend to be out in the sun on a more regular basis which can lead to sun damage. This damage can lead to a build-up of dead skin cells and make our skin appear lackluster. For a fresh and glowy look, it’s best to exfoliate all those dead skin cells away. Believe it or not, this is the best way to treat parched, flaky skin and stimulate natural oil production. Make sure to choose a gentle exfoliating product that won’t irritate your skin or strip away moisture.

Switch up your Cleanser/Toner

In the summer, we tend to reach for more powerful cleansers that can effectively remove all traces of excess oil/sweat caused by the humid temperatures. In fall, try using a lighter cleanser that will not strip your skin of its natural oils and moisture. Our aloe-based LEROSETT® Clear Skin Face Wash will keep your skin’s natural oils intact while also removing all dirt and debris. This cleanser also contains exfoliating beads comprised of nutrient-rich oils to gently but effectively exfoliate your skin.

Avoid drying toners that contain high amounts of alcohol. Try a toner that will not only remove the debris left on the skin after cleansing but will also add moisture and nutrients into your skin. Try our aloe-based LEROSETT® Clear Skin Toner to remove debris left on your skin after cleansing while also infusing your skin with botanical nutrients that help to moisturize your skin and balance your natural pH.

Moisturize, and Moisturize Some More!

Summer humidity may cause us to choose a lighter moisturizer since our skin tends to be more oily during the summer months but those days are over. Depending on the climate and your individual skin type, consider switching your moisturizer to a creamier daytime moisturizer and a rich night cream that will keep your skin hydrated throughout the night. You may also want to add a moisturizing serum into your routine as well such as our GUNILLA™ Cell Rejuvenator. This serum contains powerful amino acids and antioxidants that correct the damage from free radicals and prevents inflammation. It will also add moisture into the skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Our GUNILLA™ Deep Moisturizer with Ceramides works as a great night cream. Ceramides are lipid (fat) molecules found in high concentrations within cell membranes in the upper layer of the skin. They hold skin cells together, forming a protective layer that plumps the skin and holds moisture. They also act as a barrier against bacteria and environmental pollutants.

Don’t Skip SPF

Just because you are not sunbathing directly doesn’t mean you should skip the SPF. Continue to use at least an SPF 15 on your face, neck, hands and anywhere else you are exposed to the sun throughout fall and winter. Remember, we are exposed to the sun’s harmful rays even when there is cloud cover so make sure to protect yourself.

Use a Hydrating Mask

Don’t let your skin end up like the brittle autumn leaves by implementing a hydrating moisture mask into your skin care routine at least once a week. Since lower temperatures can impact our skin’s moisture levels, it’s important to always keep your skin nice and hydrated.  Try one that contains aloe, natural moisturizing oils, or any other ingredient that will help add moisture into your skin.

Check that Water Temperature

Nothing is better than a nice hot bath/shower after a chilly fall day but that hot water can wreak havoc on the skin by stripping natural oils and leading to parched, dry skin. To avoid overly dry skin, lower your water temperature and keep your bath or shower short. This is especially important if you cleanse your face in the shower/bath. If you must keep your water hot, try lowering the temperature before you wash your face or wash your face afterward.

Don’t Forget your Hands and Feet!

Keeping your hands, cuticles, and feet moisturized is critical for your health and as well your own comfort. Using a rich moisturizer on your hands, cuticles, and feet will keep your hands and feet looking soft and supple all throughout the fall season.

We hope these skin care tips will help you transition your summer skin care routine into the fall season. Using these simple steps will help you to maintain that healthy glowing complexion all year long!
